The Girls of Shady Spring Stables (Ohio Equine Photographer)

I returned to Shady Spring Stables to photograph their beautiful Gypsy Vanner mares.  This time it was warm and sunny!  Enjoy!

Segway in the Snow

I had the great honor to meet the gorgeous buckskin Gypsy Vanner Stallion Segway and photograph him.  Segway is an up and coming 3 year old stallion.  Keep your eyes on him, he’s going places!  He’s owned by Shady Spring Stables in Troy Ohio.  We got this shoot in on the very last good snowfall we had this past winter.  Just in the nick of time, the snow was melting and was very wet!  I’m glad we were able to do it.  I’ll be visiting Shady Springs again soon to photograph some of their mares.  Can’t wait!  In the meantime, enjoy these photos.

Exalt & Salute (Equine Photographer, Columbus Ohio)

I spent the evening with a group from Exalt and Salute a couple weeks ago. What a great barn with great people! They have just moved to a nice facility in West Jefferson, offering boarding, training and lessons. Trainer Monet Phelps uses the unique method of biomechanics in her training. She is firm yet kind and understanding with her students. I can tell that she also develops a close bond with the horses she rides and trains. Thank you to the all the people who assisted with the photo shoot that day. I hope you enjoy your photos!

Highlights from the March Equine Photography Workshop, Part 1

Hi everyone!  I had a grand time in Florida learning from one of the best equine photographers in the WORLD, Garbriele Boiselle.   On the first day of the workshop, we spent the morning at Martin Downs Equestrian Center in Palm City Florida.  This is the first horse we photographed, 6 year old Lusitano stallion Brioso Integro.

Trisha and Jazz {senior pictures with horse}

I went out to New Albany the other evening to meet up with Trisha and Jazz for her senior pictures. The weather was perfect, the light was beautiful, and the fall color was dazzling! Jazz is a very beautiful chestnut Arabian gelding. We had a little trouble keeping him in one spot as there was another horse in the neighboring pasture snorting and blowing and carrying on. That was making him anxious, as he wanted to know what was getting this horse so worked up. We had to do some improvising but it all worked out in the end! I’m very happy with the photos we captured.

Emma & Lucy

I met up with Emma & Lucy (Lucy is the horse) at Otterbein Equestrian Center the other night. Emma bred and raised Lucy, now 5 years old. Lucy is a not too common gray and white paint. The pair train in eventing together. What brave souls! We all know what a tough sport eventing is: 3 days, 3 different tough sports: dressage, cross-country, and show jumping, all requiring different skill sets. I have much respect for those that compete in that sport! Anyway, enjoy the photos.

I’m back from Mexico!

I have been MIA from this blog. So sorry! Well, this time I have an excuse! I was in the beautiful Riviera Maya Mexico shooting a wedding for one of my equine clients. Wedding images to come later. Today I am sharing some images from Tulum, where there are Mayan ruins right on the ocean! Talk about gorgeous! I really did not take that many personal photos while in Mexico. I had planned on it. But after sleeping in just about every day (except wedding day), the light at mid-day was just no good. So I’d say to myself “I’ll come back closer to evening when the light is better.” Well, it just never happened. Between that and not wanting to carry my heavy cameras and lenses around all day, I just never got to take that many photos. Well, I made sure to take my cameras to Tulum. It was right in the middle of the day but you do the best with what you got. And I really need to get a point and shoot camera! One I can take with me wherever I go so I will have a camera with me when I see something I want to take pictures of. That and I need to take more “snapshots”. You know, just personal family photos, not trying to be perfect or arty, but just photos to remember my life with. That is what I learned in Mexico. Take more snapshots and get a point and shoot! Anyway, enjoy the photos of Tulum. And if you ever get a chance, I highly recommend visiting the Riviera Maya region in Mexico.
